This dataset is not an exhaustive catalog of place names for the Barrow Peninsula.  The use of additional Iñupiat place names may be requested through the Iñupiat Heritage Center and North Slope Borough Planning Department.

Lineage statement 
Place names in this dataset were compiled to highlight major coastal features, inland waters and places for the Barrow Peninsula.  USGS quads and project collaborators with the North Slope Borough Planning Department and Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation (UIC) were consulted in compiling place names that could be publicly shared.

Places names were located over digital base maps of the region in ArcGIS.  A feature class was created to locate and enter English and Iñupiat names associated with key features.
