Research Your Film!

To be a good filmmaker, you need to prepare and plan your shoot.

The Components

There are generally three components to a documentary film production:

  • Pre-Production: This involved planning out your shoot, creating a script and a story, thinking about locations to film, and your sound.
  • Production: You are out and about, shooting film
  • Post-Production: This begins by downloading and duplicating your footage. It's never safe on just one device. You then put the video together using editing software, creating a rough cut. You also need to record narration (telling a story) and you can add music, transitions, images and other "filler".
