The Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands, located in the circumpolar North, is a recent example of a region which is trying to make use of its weather conditions to become independent in terms of energy generation.

The Faroe Islands, in general, is isolated in terms of energy supply from the rest of Europe. Due to its harsh weather conditions, this region has always had issues in terms of generating stable means of electricity. Up until recently however, the local government in Faroe Islands have recently started capitalizing on generating electricity based on Wind Turbine Technology.

The government plans on producing 75% of its total electricity through wind energy. With the wind conditions supporting their ambitions, Faroe Islands is soon to become one of the leading examples of a country which will completely replace fossil fuels with green renewable energy.
