Module 5 Overview


Photovoice is a particular qualitative research method that is creative and allows you to focus locally and personally on the topic of climate change.  Photovoice is based on the principles of participation, empowerment, accessibility, and self-documentation.  Photovoice - originally termed photo novella - has been referred to as a concept, an approach, an educational tool, a participatory action research method, a participatory action tool, a participatory health promotion strategy, and a process.  The Photovoice technique gives you, the student, an opportunity to express yourself and your thoughts  through photography and storytelling. Photovoice is an effective technique for eliciting community perspectives and strengthening community capacity. 

Module Outcomes

  1. Helps the student to understand and identify what mitigation projects or adaptive measures are happening in your community around climate change.
  2. Through photos and reflection, write about the issue from the student's perspective.
  3. Increase understanding on what personal action can be taken to advance these issues, either through learning, advocacy, training or employment.
