Pre-production Plan
Before you shoot your video - consider the following:
If you want to try your hand at using video as your medium to tell the story about climate change, you will need to create a pre-production plan with the following considerations:
- CREATE A SHORT STORY. This course is about documenting climate change. What is the story you want to tell about that in your community? What element(s) of climate change will you focus on?
- VIDEO LOCATION. Scout out and set the locations for your film. Where is your story of climate change, or issue, occurring? Write down in what locations you plan to film the landscape of your community. Then, think about people. Who will you interview? Write that down as well.
- SOUND. Think about sound. What is the sound situation in the place you will film at? For landscape shots, this isn't quite as important, unless you can hear climate change occurring?? One thing you do need consider when interviewing people, is where will you be talking to them? Is there a lot of background noise? Choose relatively quite places for interviews.
- YOUR CREW. One aspect that was not covered in all of the videos above is....a crew. It is really hard to be behind the camera, and interview someone at the same time. Can you find a friend or relative that will either be an interviewer that you can film, or is there someone that can operate your camera while you conduct the interview?
- Make decision about the type of documentary you want to film material for. Which type or style will you choose?
